Our customer was installing i410 weighing systems on all loading points at the cement factory in Rugby. Precise control of the amount of product being loaded to the lorries was required. The was transferred to a Rockwell SLC PLC and then onto an Intouch SCADA system. The SLC model only worked with Modbus data so we needed to find a gateway that would connect to both systems and pass data through seamlessly. We also had to work during weekends on a very tight schedule as the plant would only stop for a few hours on a Sunday to test the installation. Any issue with it and we had to revert back to the existing weigh system.

We initially used
ProSoft (PLX31-EIP-MBS) Gateways which we tested in the office
with the i410 and a SLC PLC. This worked and we went with this
solution. However, on site, the connection kept dropping and data
was lost. After some further unsuccessful tests, it was decided to
use a Redlion DATA STATION PLUS LE Gateway. These worked in the
office and on site with no issues. We worked with both sets of
customers to find the best solution to integrate the new weighing
system. Working around the factory’s tight schedules to keep
everyone happy.
