Underground services are the bane of many engineering projects. In particular – not knowing what services are located beneath your work area or where they are located. Canada has a good system for addressing this with public utilities – called ‘click before you dig’. You mark out your area of interest on the ground and the utilities companies come to your site – at no cost to you, and mark out their underground utilities.
You only need to contact one entity and it liaises with all the utility companies. This reduces the risk of hitting something (or someone being injured) that is not on a map or detectable. A simple joined up solution. We could all benefit from solutions like that.
