Sustainability

The essence of strategy is choosing what not to do.

Michael E. Porter.

Sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.  Embedded in most definitions of sustainability we also find concerns for social equity and economic development

This can be difficult to achieve when consumers are demanding more and a cheaper price.  This can create a conflict for manufacturing industries but also an opportunity.  Manufacturing facilities are incredibly complex to run.  Designing, installing and coordinating the process requirements, the support utilities, the logistics and the resources is very challenging.  These are usually run fairly optimally on day one but as the process, products and people evolve over time more waste is created and herein lies an opportunity to reduce waste and become more sustainable.  Sustainability and digitalisation strategies are running in parallel for many of the global manufacturers. Often this is driven by customers and regulation.

However, moving from a current state to a best in class in terms of sustainable operations and business model is not something that happens over night.  It can involve multiple projects over many years and significant capex budget.  Therefore it makes sense to undertake a roadmapping exercise that determines your current baseline and then a priority list of projects that are phased around your operations over multiple years.  With our understanding of operational environments and our subject matter expertise in project management, safety management, process engineering, control and automation and building services and utility engineering we can help to develop this costed roadmap.
