To improve the efficiency of an existing brewery CIP system, a study of existing cleaning routines was undertaken. Once rationalized several cleaning routines were combined after assessment. Several pipe routings were re-evaluated to reduce pressure loss and needless energy wastage. We also advised upon the implementation of key instrumentation such as flowmeters, temperature transmitters, and conductivity units to provide up-to-date information on the effectiveness of the cleaning and for inclusion of cleaning data into a production historian. This has reduced both the overall cleaning time for the process ad reduced the energy consumption, validated by surveying the existing cleaning systems’ capabilities and evaluating its performance once the modifications were made.
